Outdoor fun quickly sours when biting and stinging bugs come by to snack on your family. However, there are several things you can do to make yourself less likely to be a bug's meal and plenty of insect control products to help you, too. Don't let your outdoor fun be spoiled by mosquitoes!
The first step is to wear light colored clothing as bugs are attracted to dark colors, and to wear long pants and shirt sleeves as much as possible. When using insect sprays, make sure to completely cover all exposed skin, as well as you clothing and hair. If you detest the smell of bug sprays, you can find many unscented versions on the market.
There are even wipes that work just like insect control product sprays, but with more control and no chance of getting them in your eyes. These are especially good on small children. If you are using a traditional spray and want to cover your face, the safest way of doing this is to spray some of the insect control products into your hands and then gently rub your face. Other insect control products include citronella candles (mosquitoes hate the smell), bug zappers that will eliminate a variety of pests, and other electric insect resellers, all of which can be purchased at a local hardware store.

Lawn ornaments can add fun and pizazz to your lawn or garden. They can also help make your space a unique space that shows off your interests and personality, while adding curb appeal to your home. They can also serve some very practical purposes too.
Bird baths are also a great example of a pretty and useful lawn ornament. They come in a variety of colors, sizes, and designs while offering a place for local birds to bath. Bird baths can be purchased at a local hardware store. You may like bird watching and simply want to attract new species to visit your lawn, but birds offer additional advantages even if you are not a bird watcher. Most bird species are voracious bug eaters, thus a bird bath could be your first step towards eliminating garden pests. This is also true for birdhouses as well.
Another option is a water fountain. Fountains come in as many sizes as you can imagine. Many of them attract birds just as a bird bath would. But even if you don't care about bringing in birds, a fountain can create a stress relieving retreat where you can enjoy the gentle sounds of flowing water. If gardening is your forte, using a water fountain as a lawn ornament can give you the chance to try your hand at propagating some aquatic plants.
Well-Maintained Yard Tools Add to a Well-Maintained Lawn and Garden
Keeping your yard tools well maintained will help you keep your yard looking great and also keep lawn care costs down. There are some very basic things you can do to extend the life of your yard tools. If your yard tools have wooden handles, you know how easily they dry out and crack. You can keep your wooden handled yard tools looking brand new by wiping the handles down with linseed oil. Not much oil is needed, simply dampen a clean cloth with it and wipe the handle down.
Rusty metal tools can be given new life by either gently sanding the rusty metal down with some fine sandpaper and coating with a little bit of floor wax when you put them aside for the winter. You can also polish away some light rust with a mixture of lemon juice and cream of tartar. The two should be combined until they create a fairly thick paste and then lightly rub them over the rusty yard tools.
Finally, if those metal tools are still blunt after removing the rust they can be easily sharpened with a metal file, which can be found at any local hardware store. Ultimately, you do not need to replace the entire tool just because the edge is no longer sharp.
