Dog Accessories Available for Your Precious Pet
Dog accessories are available for all types and breeds of dogs. From clothing (designer, no less) to collars, dogs can be outfitted, no matter what they do. Dogs that are bred, raised, and used for hunting and sport such as retrievers, hounds, and some terriers, however, need special dog accessories. These can include such things as kennels that can provide adequate shelter, no matter what the weather is doing.
Kennels that will be in a vehicle of some sort must be of heavier construction than kennels that sit on a sheltered porch or in a home. They must be large enough to hold extra the extra bedding that may be necessary as most hunting and sport activities occur during months when the weather is turning cool or has already become cold.
Leashes, too, must be strong enough to keep the dogs in check. A leash that is fine for walking the dog around the neighborhood may not withstand constant straining, or being secured to a tree or other rough surface.
Owners who want their dogs to be at their very best and have the care they require will not mind buying the right accessories. Knowing that the dogs are safe and protected will be their reward for the extra effort that was put into choosing the right dog accessories.
Outdoor Cooking Grills - What Types are Available?
Outdoor cooking grills generally come in two types-gas and charcoal. One requires some sort of fuel, such as propane or natural gas; others only require charcoal briquettes. Both types can be purchased at a local hardware store and have different advantages and disadvantages. Some people swear they can taste the fuel used in a gas grill on the food, others say they cannot. When a charcoal grill is used, people will sometimes add seasoned wood such as hickory or mesquite for added flavor. This may not be possible with a gas grill.
Gas grills have knobs or levers with which to control the amount of heat and cooking temperature. Charcoal grills may have hot or cool spots; additionally, a charcoal fire may burn out completely, and it may take a while to get the new charcoal back up to cooking temperature. This will not happen with a gas grill, although one can run out of fuel during the cooking process if the tank was not checked or if there was a leak.
Outdoor cooking grills come in various sizes from small habachi-type grills that can only hold one or two steaks to large grills that look as though they were made from a 55-gallon barrel or drum. (Most of them probably were.) Needless to say, the average homeowner will not require a grill that size; however, the men's group at the local Methodist church which grills hundreds of pounds of meat twice a year for their fundraising barbecue sales will need that large grill.
Pest Control Products - What to Buy
Nothing spoils an outdoor gathering more than annoying mosquitoes, gnats, flies, or other pests. Ticks can cause illness; chiggers (or red bugs as they are also known) can cause misery due to intense itching. For these, and other, reasons, there are pest control products on the market that are specifically designed to be used on one's person or in areas where people congregate. Some of them are even designed to add a decorative look while doing the job.
Citronella candles and torches are pest control products which do just that. Citronella is one of the few "natural" pest control products. Citronella wax is placed into pretty candle holders or in containers which may be disguised as flowerpots, metal buckets, or other items. Liquid citronella is the "fuel" used to light decorative "tiki" torches or other similar lighting sources.
Foggers can be sprayed in and around the area where a gathering will take place. This can be done well before guests start arriving, so that they will not have to breathe the mist, and the smell will have dissipated somewhat.
Sprays can be applied directly to skin and clothing. Some people, however, cannot stand the heavy, greasy feel that some of these types of pest control products leave on the skin. Further, some of these pest control products still have DEET as an active ingredient, and, therefore, should not be used in large quantities or too frequently on children.
Washboard Washing: An Effective, Easy Way to Wash Your Clothes
A person cannot get more "back to basics" than the washboard method of doing laundry. The rubbing and squeezing required certainly can give one's hands, arms, and shoulders a workout. Washboard washing requires that clothing be vigorously moved up and down on a rough surface in order to remove dirt. A washboard surface was primarily metal; however, "modern" washboards boast a glass surface.
Most of the fabrics used in clothing today probably cannot, and should not, be washed on a washboard, no matter how smooth the surface is. Clothing that is made entirely of natural materials such as cotton and wool can still be safely washed; however, that silk blouse or those pantyhose probably will not stand up to the harsh treatment given by washboard washing.
Washboard washing is a feasible way of doing laundry when camping, especially in those areas that only offer "primitive" camping (Appalachian Trail shelters, and remote areas of National Parks, for instance).There is, however, still one use for which a washboard is still very popular. A good metal or brass washboard makes the perfect musical instrument. Some country or bluegrass bands, as well as "cajun" bands have at least one washboard player in the group.
